Following best practice within your role
 

The only way you can influence the quality of service following best practices, agreed ways of working (policies of procedures) and maintaining health and safety. The quality of service will be improved if you follow best practices, policies and procedures and work according to health and safety rules. You will apply practices into your service provision only what and the way you have been agreed, taught or trained following health and safety and company’s policies and procedures. You may also bring some practices from other places or discover your own practices using your best judgement during the span of your role. But you must have to inform and justify from Manager or accredited person before you apply it.
 
Example: Suppose, you have noticed a resident has been manhandled by a carer while trying to assist with mobility.
The best practice is for you to record and report to the manager immediately which can resolve issue quickly and help to improve services by eliminating causes. But if you do not do so and incident reoccurs again another day in front of a visitor then the bad quality of service in your care home may spread in public.
So, it depends all in your action, practices, knowledge, skills and impartial judgement what can influence the quality of service you are providing.
Following best practices or working accordance with, services or quality of life not only may be improved but also your skills and position may be improved.

Identify three examples of barriers to communication and explain how could overcome each barrier?

There are many barriers to communications. I just explained few a below :
Physical Barrier: Identifying the preferred method of communication and using appropriate method to establish communication. Methods are body language, gesture, touch, eye contact, facial expression, clear spoken language, makaton, minicom or type talk, writing, drawing and picture.
Language differences: Providing interpreter or translator service. Using makaton, body language, gesture, drawing and picture.
Cultural Differences: Checking individual’s record, speaking to a family member or friends or someone else who is from same culture or through the country’s cultural representative.

How an individual’s background can influence the way they communicate?

Communication is about much more than words being exchanged between two people – it is influenced by a great many factors. The way in which they brought up and the society and culture that they live in has a great effect on the way in which they communicate. In some cultures children are not allowed to speak in the presence of certain adult. Some people may have been brought up in a background of challenging environment. Some women do not speak in front of other man out of family. These factors will highly influence the way they communicate and to establish communication with these groups of people.

Factors to consider when promoting effective communication

Remember, there are many factors need to consider when promoting effective communication. I described few of them below.
Disabilities: Disabilities such as hearing loss, impaired vision, mobility problems or speech impairment can affect the effective communication. Proper communication method should be known and pre-aware of before communicating the people with disability or different health issues.

Cultural Differences: Communication differences can result from differences in culture. In some cultures, children are not allowed to speak in front of adult and some kind of body gesture, eye contact, facial expression and touch are inappropriate.
Environment: Environment is one of the most important factor to consider as well. Ensure the lights, air, temperature, noise, crowd, safe and comfortability in correct measure before establishing effective communication.
